Safe Space

You’ve only got to visit a skatepark to see that it is a diverse array of people from all backgrounds coming together. You won’t find a more inclusive space than in the skateboarding community.
Our events are a place where regardless of who you are or your situation, provide a space where you can feel secure and respected.

Code of Conducts are in place to set best practice for harmony.


History

2004-2011
Skateboarding Competitions were only ‘Open’ with a mixed Male and Female Division.

2012
Discussions were had with Male competitors around creating a separate division for women. A unanimous decision was made to halve the prize money from the Opens to allow a Womens Division for the females to develop and be able to earn money.
The Toowoomba Mayoral competition rolled it out first, with Shari Lawson winning the womens. Shari has gone on to become a Worldskate judge.

2015
Queensland bowlriding championships was held at Coolum Beach. Aimee Massie became the first female to make podium in both the Opens and Womens Divisions, earning money across both.

2018
The First Rumble event was formed, Rumble on the Reef, and in this year divisions officially split from Opens and Womens to Mens and Womens. Prior to this there was no individual Mens events, only Opens mixed.

2020
The Songline Indigenous skate team performed their first demonstration at Rumble on the Reef. This indigenous initiative continues to this day, supporting communities across Australia.

2023
All divisions are equal across the board, and the league has its highest amount of representation of diversity to date.
