Am Series 22/23 New Changes

A New Season is Upon us!

With this comes a lot of feedback from the previous season, and a lot of positive changes are happening.

Below are some of the new changes for the upcoming Season. * Please note these changes are for the Am series events and not the Rumble Events.

Divisions
9 & Under
13 & Under
16 & Under
Opens
Reason for Changes
12 & under has moved to 13 & under to be able to allow more time in the juniors and give extra time between moving up for those starting late into skateboarding. 15 & under has moved to 16 & under to give people more time to develop before they move into Opens.

9 & Under Changes
1. Scores will no longer be visible at events.
2. There will no longer be 9 & Under podium at events.
3. Points will be given in the season ranking HERE which will accumulate over the year at competitions.
4. End of Season points winners will receive a reward for being head of the rankings for 22/23.
5. Judging will be simplified for parents, judges & competitors.
6. 3 runs with straight finals
Reason for Changes
The focus of the changes from feedback is to make sure we are developing new skateboarders into competition to make sure the focus is on participation, friendship and enjoyment. These changes allow for kids to be able to build good sportsmanship, enjoy more of skate culture, and keep more of the focus away from winning and more about enjoyment.
Judging Criteria
9 & under judging has been simplified to be on these 3 points:
1. Use of the whole park using street obstacles.
2. Staying on your board.
3. Doing tricks that pop.
This new system simplifies competition for young people with the focus on building their fundamentals. Consistency, using lots of obstacles and building up their ollie and foundations. This simplifies the role for judges, and also gives competitors and parents better clarity to work with their child in a less competitive way.

13 & Under Changes
1. Additional year in development for Juniors.
2. Simplified Judging System.
3. Change from 12 to 13 to accommodate bigger gaps in stepping up.
4. An end of season ranking champion will be awarded at end of season.
Reason for Changes
Less pressure on young people developing, more focus on fun, simpler format to work towards, focus on participation.
Judging Criteria
13 & Under Judging has been simplified to these focal points
1. Doing flip tricks.
2. Doing grinds harder than 5050 and slides harder than boardslides.
3. Staying on your board.
4. Using a mix of obstacles.
This gives more time to focus on building up a stronger repertoire of tricks and keeps it more fun, has a simple focus and assists with goals and development.

16 & Under
The only changes are allowing an extra year to develop before Opens and having an end of season ranking champion.

Opens
1. End of Season leaderboard champion crowned at end of season.
2. At Am events, Opens is Mixed, due to low numbers of Opens Females, however ranking points accumulate to your biological sex, and the corresponding division.

GENERAL CHANGES
Some general updates on event procedures.
1. The judging panel cannot be approached until post event at all future events.
2. Check in and registrations are done before the event or during the warm ups of divisions.
This will ensure no interruptions, judges have no distractions and provide equality for all riders.
