New Am Series Structure to boost exposure for next generation skateboarders.

A new overhaul of the Am series will launch in the new year, kicking off with the Kat Williams Cup in February.

This new structure expands talent identification for skateboarders who are serious about progressing in skateboarding.

The aim of these changes it to:
1. Fast track the development of young skateboarders who have been identified by the industry through sponsorship.
2. Provide a level playing field in Junior divisions.
3. Support the sponsors of young skateboarders, and the young skateboarders through more exposure.

What is the Change?

From February, any skateboarder who is sponsored directly by a brand or is an ambassador for a brand will now enter the main division, the Opens / Sponsored division.

This is directly for people who have a sponsorship agreement with a brand and/or brands where the endorsement is provided directly to the competitior.

competitors who receive sponsorship from a local shop and are provided brands through their shop aka ‘Shop Flow’ are exempt from the stipulation, as shop flow is to encourage young skaters to support their local store.

Benefits of the change

Video highlights are only of Opens Division, so sponsored skateboarders will now get featured further supporting them and their sponsors for exposure.

The Official event photographer covers the Opens, so sponsors and competitors will have more coverage and better access to content.

For serious competitors who are taking on sponsorships or endorsement deals, the Opens Division is the division for talent identification.

As an example, there are 2800 competitors in the National Am series, If you are 25th in the Opens, you are 25th overall.  If you are 1st in the Under 9s from last season, you sit in the ladder at #2581st, with every under 13, 16 and Opens competitor being ranked above.

This new system will help support those with sponsors, and allow them to progress and support their sponsors better, while putting them in the right area for talent identification.

While it may seem like a new change, this system existed prior with competitions always having an Opens & Sponsored division.

This is me, how do i register now?
If you fall into this category, when you register simply register in the Opens Mens or Womens from now on.
